A month?

Wow! I cannot believe it has been an entire month since I last posted. Summertime just flies by, and I guess the time goes faster than I know. This past weekend, we enjoyed a trip to the Allentown Arts Festival in Buffalo, New York. It was our first visit to the festival, but rest assured that we will not miss this again! We must have walked for miles, gazing at fabulous works of art. Anything was available; prints, original pieces, jewelry, clothing, pottery...the list could continue forever.

We enjoyed a fabulous lunch at Wasabi Restaurant in the Elmwood Village area of Buffalo. We dined on sushi and beef teriyaki, both of which were prepared to perfection. It is exhilerating to sit at an outside table for lunch. There are so many things to see and experience while enjoying good food and great company!

Perhaps the most rewarding part of the entire trip was our "Worlds Biggest Ball of Twine Moment". People often heckle me about my driving, as I am a VERY slow driver. I have figured out that I am not exceptionally skilled at paying attention while driving. I like to look around, and you never know when you will happen upon a random garage sale that it is necessary to stop at...

Anyway, I will always stop when I see something that I think needs seen. I call these my "Worlds Biggest Ball of Twine Moments." I will stop at every sign advertising something obscure and random. And who wouldn't? So traveling home on Route 219 South, we happened upon a sign that read "Griffis Sculpture Park." We drove by. (Keep in mind that we are in Northwestern Pennsylvania, Southwestern New York. BFE most of the time..)

We turned around about 1/4 mile from the sign and went back. We drove into the farm country, passed an Amish man plowing with horses and another farm with unusually large swines. We were just about to go back when we found the sign for the park, pointing us up a rocky driveway into a field. And from that point on we were mesmerized.

Griffis Sculpture Park is amazing. It is a wonderful maze of trails, all leading to a new and unique treasure. We didn't have much time, as the sun was setting and the park winds through the wilderness, so we set about following the main trail. My personal favorite (thus far, as we did not see the entire park) was the moment we hiked into a clearing and heard water

We can't wait to go back. There are picnic tables and pavillions stationed throughout the park, so we will make a day of it. The website has directions and information about the park. You can visit anytime, as admission is by the honor system.

Happy summer everyone! Get creative - go to garage sales and morph some "junk" in to something amazing!
