Yohoho and a bottle of rum!

Well, actually there was no rum involved at my nephews' 6th birthday. He wanted a pirate theme this year, so I whipped up this cake for him:

I loved the way his eyes lit up when he saw it. The beauty of an excited child makes all of the hard work worth it! The cake is 1/2 yellow and 1/2 chocolate. It is covered with standard Buttercream icing. The sand is made from a mixture of crushed graham crackers and brown sugar.I shaped the ship out of a 10" round, cut in half and then into wedges. I think this was the most time-consuming cake yet, but the end result was worth it!

  1. Very cute cake! One of my daughters is very into pirates. I may have to borrow your idea.

  2. I am glad you like it! I used a Lego kit for the pirates, so you may want to do the same depending on your daughters' age. Someday, I am going to try to make my own figures but for now the toys work great!
