Tiramisu Tira-Tutorial

One of my besties celebrated a birthday this week - for her birthday treat she requested Tiramisu. She loves it. She would live on this fabulous Italian creation, and I am quite certain if she were Queen, Tiramisu would be one of the Food Groups.

I have experimented with various Tiramisu recipes and found a cupcake recipe that was so-so and only makes 6 cupcakes per recipe. I needed more, since I was taking this delicacy to the office for the celebration. Thus, out comes my trusting laptop and..Google! Did you know there is an entire site dedicated to the mighty Tiramisu? And the recipes are in categories, depending on how much work you want to do and/or what ingredients you want to use. Appropriately enough, the site is Heavenly Tiramisu.

I went ahead with Christine and Mom's (Better Safe than Sorry)Tiramisu recipe.

It was a fairly easy recipe, although it took me awhile because I had to make my Ladyfingers from scratch. I know - big surprise that I couldn't find Ladyfingers here in the rural city. Anyway, I scanned around for a few recipes and used a recipe from Sweet Desires. I actually doubled the recipe and baked it on a cookie sheet like a big cake. I had some left over and it made great cake for Strawberry Shortcake.

The Ladyfinger cake was a bit thick and since you need at least two layers of Ladyfingers, I decided to slice each piece in half.

This recipe called for Hazelnut Coffee and Amaretto. Quickly dip the Ladyfingers in the mixture. And I do mean quickly. The Ladyfinger will fall apart if you let it soak. Line the bottom of your dish with a layer of dipped Ladyfingers, spread a layer of the cream mixture on top, and sprinkle with grated chocolate. Repeat this process until you have filled your dish, or you run out of ingredients.

It turned out very well - very rich, creamy and flavorful. Here is a side-view of the layers put together.
